AI search is becoming part of how people find a practitioner like you. This guide explains what an llms.txt file is, why it matters, and how to add one to your website domain in Alvéya.
What is an llms.txt file?
An llms.txt file is a simple, plain-language summary of your website that AI tools can read. Think of it as a short map of your site — what it's about, what pages it has, and what you do — written in a format AI systems understand easily.
You can now create and manage this file directly inside Alvéya, and it will be automatically published at:
Why it matters
AI tools and modern site checks — including AI-powered browsing features used in search performance audits — actively look for an llms.txt file when they scan a website. Without one, AI systems can struggle to understand what your site offers, which can affect how easily you're found through AI-powered search.
Adding an llms.txt file helps make sure:
AI tools can accurately understand what your practice does
Your site is set up to pass modern search performance checks
You're more visible in AI-powered search results, alongside traditional search engines
💡 You don't need any technical knowledge to set this up — Alvéya handles the hosting and publishing for you. You just add the content.
How to add your llms.txt file
Go to Settings — either the cogwheel icon at the top of the screen, or Settings in the left-hand menu.
Find your domain under External Domains and click Manage.
Find the domain or subdomain that's connected to your website or funnel.
Click the three dots on the right-hand side, then select Edit.
Scroll down to the llms.txt section.
Add or edit your site's content here — a clear, plain-language summary of what your website offers.
Click Save. Your file will publish instantly to your domain.
⚠️ Each domain has its own llms.txt file, so if you have more than one domain connected — for example a main website and a client portal — you'll want to set this up for each one separately.
Not sure what to write? Let AI help you
Writing a clear summary of your own practice can be surprisingly tricky. If you would rather not stare at a blank box, use the prompt below.
Copy it into ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI chat tool you already use. It will ask you a few simple questions about your practice, then write your llms.txt content for you, ready to paste straight into the box above.
I need help writing the content for my website's llms.txt file. This is a short, plain-language
summary of my website that AI tools read to understand what my business offers.
Please ask me the following questions one at a time, waiting for my answer before moving to the
next one. Once you have all my answers, write the llms.txt content for me in the correct format.
Questions to ask me:
1. What is the name of your practice or business?
2. What is your website URL?
3. In one or two sentences, what do you do and who do you help?
4. What are the main services, programs, or offerings on your website? (List each one briefly.)
5. Who is your ideal client or patient? (E.g. their situation, goals, or what brings them to you.)
6. Is there a location or region you primarily serve, or do you work with clients anywhere?
7. What makes your approach different from others in your field?
8. What are the main pages on your website? (E.g. Home, About, Services, Blog, Book a Session,
Contact.) For each one, a one-line description of what it covers.
9. Are there any specific words, qualifications, or specialisations you want to make sure are
included? (E.g. "AHPRA registered", "trauma-informed", "telehealth available".)
Once I've answered, write the llms.txt content using this structure:
- Start with a single line: # [Business or practice name]
- Follow with a short blockquote summary (1 to 3 sentences) describing what the business does
and who it serves.
- Add a section titled ## About with 2 to 4 sentences of further context — approach, experience,
and what makes the practice distinct.
- Add a section titled ## Services listing each core offering as a short bullet with a one-line
description.
- Add a section titled ## Pages listing each main website page as a bullet, in the format:
[Page Name](page URL if known, otherwise leave as a placeholder): one-line description.
Keep the tone plain, factual, and free of marketing language or hype. Write it the way you would
explain the business to someone who has never heard of it. Do not use emojis, exclamation marks,
or sales language.
💡 Once the AI has written your content, give it a quick read-through before pasting it in. It's worth double-checking it sounds like you.
Your website is now a little easier for AI to understand — and a little easier for the right people to find.
