Sitemaps, indexing & page speed

The behind-the-scenes technical settings that keep your site fast and easy for search engines to explore.

Sitemaps: your site's table of contents

A sitemap is a file that lists every page on your website, so search engines can find and index them efficiently. Alvéya generates and maintains this for you automatically as you publish pages — you don't need to build or update one by hand.

💡 If you've just published a brand new page and want it discovered faster, you can manually request indexing through Google Search Console, once your site is connected to it.

Indexing: controlling what Google can see

Not every page belongs in search results — think thank-you pages, internal drafts, or private booking confirmations. You control this with the "noindex" custom meta tag covered in the "Page titles, meta descriptions & custom meta tags" lesson.

As a general rule: if a page is meant for the public and genuinely useful to someone searching, leave it indexable. If it's a step in a private flow, keep it out of the index.

Page speed: why it matters for SEO

A slow-loading page loses both visitors and search ranking — Google factors load speed into how it ranks pages, and people simply leave slow sites before they finish loading.

  • Keep images reasonably sized before uploading them — very large image files are the most common cause of a slow page.

  • Avoid stacking too many heavy elements (videos, embeds, animations) on a single page.

  • Alvéya's website and funnel builder is built for speed by default — most of the work here is simply not overloading a page with unnecessary media.

⚠️ If a page feels slow to you while editing, it will likely feel slower still to a visitor on mobile data. When in doubt, simplify.
