If you'd rather keep the number you already have instead of purchasing a new one through Alvéya, you can connect it for outbound calling. This is a lighter-weight option than buying a dedicated number — here's what it does, and how to set it up.
Before you start: Connecting an existing number only enables outbound calls made from your desktop. It does not let you send or receive SMS, and inbound calls will keep going straight to your phone as normal, outside of Alvéya. If you need SMS or the ability to receive calls inside Alvéya, you'll need to purchase a dedicated number instead — see our guide on buying a phone number.
Step 1: Start adding your number
Go to Settings → Phone System → Phone Numbers.
Click + Add Number in the top right, then choose Add Verified Caller ID.
Step 2: Verify the number is yours
Enter your existing phone number and click Call Me to Verify.
You'll see a 6-digit code appear on your screen. When your phone rings, enter that code on your keypad to confirm the number is yours.
Step 3: Test the connection
Click Call myself now to place a test call from your desktop to your own phone, confirming everything is connected properly.
Step 4: Verify your identity
Click Verify identity to call others.
Have a government-issued photo ID ready, then click Begin verifying and follow the prompts to scan your ID and your face.
💡 This identity check is required before you can call contacts — not just yourself — so it's worth doing straight away rather than waiting until you need it.
Step 5: You're connected
Your number will now appear under the Verified Caller IDs tab. From there, click the ⋯ menu next to it if you'd like to enable call recording.
⚠️ Inbound calls to this number are not affected — they'll continue to ring your phone as they always have. Only outbound calls made from inside Alvéya are covered by this setup, and it's currently available on desktop only.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Can I use this instead of purchasing a number?
Yes, if all you need is outbound calling. If you want SMS, inbound calls, or automated workflows, you'll need a purchased number instead.
Q: Can I do both — connect my existing number and purchase a new one?
Yes. Many practitioners use their existing number for outbound calls and a purchased number for SMS. Just make sure you select the right number when placing a call.
Q: Will I still be charged for calls made this way?
Yes — outbound calls made from Alvéya are billed per minute, regardless of whether you're using a purchased or connected number. You won't be charged for inbound calls to a connected number, since those aren't routed through Alvéya at all.
Q: Is this available on mobile?
Not yet — it's currently a desktop-only feature.
You're now set up to make outbound calls from Alvéya using the number your clients already know.
